Stories of Yokohama hostfamily weekend Part 1

By Frances, Kathryn and Elise

frances: my 2nd host family was awesome. it was great having someone close to my age. mio and ayu are my host sisters. mio just turned 16 so on the first night we ate birthday cake. ayu is 7 and the cutest girl in the world. after a few days she followed me everywhere. when she woke up she would come into my room and wouldn't leave my side until bedtime. both of the girls are really good at baton twirling. they sometimes drive two hours to see their coach. i guess she is an all japan coach, and many japanese people want her to coach. i ate american food everyday for breakfast because that is what my host mom made. yesterday i ate sukiyaki, which i have never had, and it was awesome. i didn't even mind the raw egg. i spilt the cold noodle sauce all over meow though, and it was pretty embarrassing. i did purikura (print club) twice. leaving my host family, i cried. meow also cried a little and ayu was hysterical. it was sad. mom and dad i miss you! xoxo

Kathryn: my last host was so nice. I cried when i had to leave them today and i was only with them for about two days. they treated me like i was a princess. yesterday we went to Kamakura and visited a lot of temples, did a little shopping, and went hiking. then we went for a car ride for about 2 hours to be by the ocean. we did some carnival rides and then went to china-town. it was unbelievable. i did some more shopping [every bag i have is now completely full] and had a huge dinner. we were at a really fancy restaurant and they brought out at least 15 plates of food and we each got a bunch of little plates and ate off everything. it was so good, i ate shark tail soup! then we went home and they gave me like their whole house, she even gave me a doll made out of an old kimono. keep in mind they spoke only a little english, so there was a lot of grunts and thumbs up and thumbs down and one word sentences. i try to talk so they can understand me in english, and now it is hard to talk! normal. anyways the past few days have been amazing!

elise: my host family was totally cool, yesterday we went out to kamakura and saw all sorts of temples and shrines with ritsuko's friends eri, mika and mihoka. we ate at mcdonalds and then went to the ocean where i got shells and laughed at the girls running away from the waves as they tried to help me collect shells. then at night we [ritsuko and her parents] went to a traditional japanese restaurant and i ate a lot. sunday night we sang karaoke and i sang all sorts of my favorite anime themes in japanese, we totally had a great time. today we said goodbye and my family bought me a yukata, a summer kimono, and I'm going to wear it tonight to the party. ritsuko and her mom cried, but i didn't because i know i will see them again!
