Miyajima in Rain |

Jemmy- We took a 10 minute boat ride to reach the Miyajima island. it was gorgeous!! The mountains, clouds, the tides..just beautiful. When we arrived at the temple, the tide hadn't really come in so the sand around the temple was visible. lots of crabs too. [Then we walked to Daisho-in temple.] this has been my favorite so far. there were many, many rooms. one room, however, was too dark to see anything. i think mike and chris had too much fun in there. we returned to the youth hostel at around 9 and everyone did their laundry. chris made a new friend that night too...
Chris is. We're speeding back towards Tokyo in the Shinkansen, Bullet Train for those of you from the States. I'm not sure but it doesn't seem like i've written in here since our trip west on el Shinkansen. The days are going by as fast as the scenery. To summarize, I really enjoyed our stay in Hiroshima. I fully recommend visiting the A-Bomb dome, it's a hard experience to describe. The rain was pouring, which added to the sadness of the Peace Park. I'll jump ahead. The second night at the Hostel was awesome. Before dinner the guys devised a plan for bath time. We purchased rubber ducks, a toy plane, a squirt gun, an umbrella, and a pikachu mask. We had a pool party in the bathtub. After that I did some laundry, met a college girl, talked with her for an hour or so, taught another new acquaintance how to say "Whatup Dude", was denied knowledge of my new collegiate acquaintance's email (twice), buried my head in the sand, and fell asleep.
Katie- Hiroshima is one sweet place. The peace park was absolutely too much for words... just incredible. They had a clock in the lobby showing the number of days since the Hiroshima atomic bomb, and the number of days since one has been tested... something like 110 days, I think. Afterward, we went to Miyajima island. It was amazing! It was raining, so there was fog in the mountains... soooo beautiful- it was like a postcard :) The temple [Daisho-in] on the island was probably my favorite one of the whole trip. There was a lot of gold and orange, just really ornate stuff all over. Another section had hundreds of lanterns and statues of deities. What a sweet place. After all that, we used a ferry, train, bus, and our feet to get back to the youth hostel. It's situated on a pretty steep hill, and it was still raining, so that kinda sucked, but overall it was an awesome day- my favorite day of the trip so far.
