Kyoto Free day

By Emily and Drew

Emily- Sarah, Anna and I grabbed some breakfast and headed for the bus station. We wanted to go to the golden temple. After searching for the right bus for a while, a very nice, young (and handsome) businessman overheard us and decided to help us find our bus. The golden temple was beautiful! We bought fortunes there and all had good luck. However, despite the predictions, we took the wrong bus. After some very interested Japanese school boys helped us realize this, we found the right bus back to the Kyoto station. While waiting for this bus, a group of school girls wanted to take pictures with us. "I...Love...Americans!"

Once we got back to Kyoto,we visited the dollar store, ate lunch, and while Anna went shopping, Sarah and I visited another temple. We practiced our meditation and saw a rope made entirely of human hair. It was well preserved ... and gross.

As we were leaving the beautiful (and disgusting) temple, we were attacked by three fleets of pigeons. I screamed, crouched down, and grabbed Sarah's arm as the terrifying birds streamlined straight towards us. Sarah laughed hysterically

After the pigeon attack, we met up with Anna and decided to go to the top of Kyoto tower, similar to the Sears tower in Chicago. The view was amazing and we saw a few really cool shrines and temples we wish we would have visited.

Then we returned to the Dragon Lady Inn ("Blanket, only Blanket!") to meet up with the rest of the group. It was an eventful and interesting day!

Drew - Bryan and I went to the golden temple which was very nice. Kyoto was a bit different than I was expecting. It was very modernized and fancy. Kyoto wasn't that fun. Free days are a lot less fun than I thought because no one ever wants to do the same thing. Which is why we just wandered around Kyoto wondering what to do, walking a lot, and getting lost. We did find a really cool electronics store that saved the day though. I just wanted to take the whole store home with me.
