Emily's Family

Showa Hostfamily

By Anna, Bryan, Emily, Larry and Michael

Today we went back to Showa and spent Saturday with our first host family.

Anna - my host family's two daughters came over with their families and we went to a doll shop where the dolls for girls' day are sold. they are REALLY expensive! $8,000 for a cheap one! it was interesting. then we went out for pizza and talked about stuff. it was a lot of fun.

Bryan - Today my host family had okonomiyaki for brunch, with squid and shrimp. Then, some family came and we all went to a piano recital for their children. The daughter, Hikari, gave an amazing performance of the theme from Phantom of the Opera. Afterwards the entire family went to an Italian restaurant and ate an insane amount of food. It was a lot of fun, the whole family had a great time.

Emily- Yesterday, with my host family, Sarah and I went to church. It was really strange, and slightly awkward, but an interesting experience. After that, we went to an Italian restaurant for lunch. Then we went to karaoke! It was really fun. We sang spice girls, Ricky Martin, and Back Street boys. We also sang the Japanese songs we knew. Because my birthday was right before the trip, my host family threw me a little birthday party and surprised me with a cake and birthday candles at the karaoke restaurant. It was really nice! Later that night, we went to a shabu shabu restaurant which was really, really good. Once we got home, we watched some really interesting Japanese TV with my host family. It was a fun day!

Larry - Today is the last day of Japan! The last two days were fun. I got to do "onsen" and karaoke with my host family. I enjoyed doing onsen, the Japanese hot springs. It was very relaxing. I will miss Japan; it was a lot of fun. I will miss my host family too.

Michael - When we got back to Showa, I was happily greeted by my host family once again. We didn't do much for the rest of the day, but yesterday we went to a museum dedicated to the Edo river. We walked around a big flower garden after that. It was very relaxing and peaceful. In the evening we went to a sports center to watch a judo practice. The teacher tried to tell me the history of judo in Japanese, but I didn't understand much of it. We said goodbye for the last time this morning. I'm going to miss Japan and my new friends very much.
