This report is about Miyaajima island near Hiroshima.
elise: miyaajima was beautiful, we took a ferry and could see the bright red gate in the water the whole trip. we petted the deer and then took pictures of the gate. kathryn's kyoto host dad was our guide and he did a great job and knew just where to go. we went to a shrine on the water, but the tide was out so it didn't really have its full effect, but we got to see crabs and whatnot skittering about, and the shrine was amazing and huge so not a wasted effort at all. lauren and steff swam (waded) in the ocean, and the rest of us either sat and enjoyed the view or went seashell hunting. then we went to daishoin temple, which was amazing. there were statues everywhere and even a whole room filled with buddhas from 88 other temples across japan and it was explained to us that if we went through and touched all the prayer beads, it would be like we had visited all of them. we probably have enough cumulative luck on this trip to last the rest of our lives! sherbet and a walk! back to the ferry served to finish our sight-seeing day.
lauren again. it seems that most everything's been covered about yesterday. but we did have some free time after the whole island adventure. oh yeah, and while on the island i bought this sphere geometrical puzzle that matt and i are trying to figure out right now. he's working on it as i write this. right now we are on the shinkansen en route to tokyo. but back to yesterday. during free time i went shopping with fran & aly & kathryn. i didn't buy anything. we did print club with matt, but he didn't participate because he didn't think he was pretty enough. matt just gave up on the puzzle. I'm going to have another go at it. if i don't figure it out by the time we get home, you're going to have to help, dad. see ya monday!
