There is our journal for our time with Yokohama host families.
jarrod: ok so first things first, yokohama was amazing!!! my family was awesome, I could have not asked for a better host family. also from what i heard everyone elses was great! my host family and i were always doing something. we went to landmark tower (the tallest building in japan) and rode the worlds fastest elevator to the top. 69 floors in about 20 seconds or so. also they took me out for sushi. afterwards we went home and played about 2 hours of uno. I really couldn't even say enough to explain how awesome my yokohama experience was. I don't even think the rest of the trip could get any better than it was in yokohama.
Matt: On Saturday I went to Sakuragicho with my host family. It's a place that is moving toward the future. I saw the Landmark Tower which was the tallest building in the world until some tower in Taiwan added an antenna. The elevator that takes you to the top goes 750 meters/minute, and the tower is about 280 meters tall. Then we went to Chinatown for lunch and walked around a little bit. Then this morning we went to Kamakura which is an old style town. I bought a lot of stuff there. Pretty much this host family was the best ever, and if any one wants to contend that I will fight them to the death. That's no lie.
Jemmy - I totally agree with Jarrod and Matt about yokohama being the best so far! My host family was very talkative and taught me a lot about the culture. Although, i tried to teach them a little bit about the Hmong culture, but i don't think they really comprehended what i said :) anyways, yesterday they took me to yokohama world porters, yamashita park, chinatown, and all those other places; forgot their names. we ran into chris and his host family twice :) yokohama definitely took my breath away. i loved it !
Sam-My yokahama host family was amazing. My host father surfs and on saturday we biked to the beach and he tried to teach me and his son to surf. Neither of us were any good. I could see people in the water as far as i could see. Black sand beaches stretched for miles. After surfing, we biked back to their house and showered, and then went sightseeing. Since somehow they found out that I like pizza and ice cream, we had pizza for lunch and ice cream for dessert. Purple potato and green tea ice cream on a cone. Then we went back home where they presented me with gifts of hats, t-shirts, and wrist bands. I put them on and they took 300 pictures of me. Then we went to baskin robbins for another dessert. They said to come back and stay with them when I learn more Japanese.
Mike: Dang yo. Yesterday was incredible. I started the day off by driving out to Kamakura with my host family. We saw the Buddha statue and visited about six temples and shrines. After that we headed into Yokohama's Chinatown for a twelve, yes twelve, course lunch. That night we went to the hot springs and karaoke. This morning I got up at 5:00 and went for an hour walk. Now we're going really fast on a bullet train. Good times.
