Shibuya (in Tokyo)

By Bryan and Michael

Bryan - Today we went to Shibuya, which is a giant entertainment district with lots of restaurants and shopping. Shibuya is very popular with Japanese people about our age, so there were lots of cool things to look at and buy. One of the most interesting things was that all of the music stores sold vinyl record albums as well as CDs, and you can buy high-tech stereo systems that play records.

Michael- In addition to what Brian described, we visited Meiji shrine. We saw some old barrels of wine stacked outside the shrine, where they were apparently brought to be consecrated. The shrine itself was fantastic; it was very old and we saw a few monks tending the shrine. We prayed at a stone garden and I bought an omikuji, or fortune, on the way out. It was in old Japanese, though, so not even Sensei could interpret it. It was a very interesting experience and I'm really looking forward to visiting the temples in Kyoto.
