At Hakuyo High School, we were first introduced to the teachers and presented them with Steph's drawing of MHS. We then went on a tour of the school - it is five stories tall and has about 800 students. I went to an English class with my host sister - they are working on some very complex reading, but I think their spoken English is not as advanced. We also were able to try ikebana ~ more specifically, moribana, with three types of flowers cut at different lengths. It was a little difficult but very interesting.
Next, I ate lunch with my host sister and her friends; her mother had made me rice balls along with some other foods. We talked about what books and movies we liked - apparently the Narnia movies are also very popular in Japan. The first year students (our sophomores) had presentations from science companies - I sat in on one about global warming and recycling and was actually able to understand some of it. All of us participated in the tea ceremony with the tea ceremony club - it was very silent, but the tea and wagashi (traditional Japanese desserts) were very delicious.
